While The Cavern Club is world-famous for its connection to The Beatles, the surrounding Cavern Quarter is often overlooked. This vibrant area is filled with hidden bars, live music venues, and tributes to Liverpool’s musical past. You’ll find incredible statues, murals, and independent pubs where you can experience the city’s musical heritage in a more intimate setting. Be sure to visit the less-crowded bars where local musicians perform, giving you a true taste of Liverpool’s thriving live music scene.
Nestled in the heart of Sefton Park, the Palm House is a stunning Victorian glasshouse that is often missed by tourists. This botanical beauty is home to a variety of exotic plants and a serene atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a peaceful escape from the city. The restored glasshouse also hosts live music events, art exhibitions, yoga sessions and more, offering visitors a chance to enjoy culture and nature in one of Liverpool’s most picturesque settings.
Liverpool has one of oldest Chinatowns in Europe, yet many visitors don’t take the time to fully explore its rich history and vibrant culture. The stunning Chinese Arch, standing at an impressive 44 feet, marks the entrance to this lively district. You’ll find an abundance of Chinese restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets and shops to try some of the splendid cuisine. During Chinese New Year, there’s also live performances and festive celebrations which are truly wonderful.
Located just behind Liverpool Cathedral, St. James Gardens is a hidden gem with a fascinating past. Once a cemetery, this tranquil space is now a beautiful park with winding pathways, old stone features, and a natural spring known as the ‘Chalybeate Water.’ The gardens will offer a peaceful setting, making it an ideal place for chilling out and taking in nature. Walking through this quiet retreat, you’ll get a sense of Liverpool’s deep historical roots.
Tate Liverpool, located in the heart of the city's vibrant Albert Dock, is renowned for its impressive collection of modern and contemporary art. While it is often celebrated for its major exhibitions and iconic pieces, there is a treasure trove of hidden exhibitions and intimate displays that many visitors overlook. These lesser-known exhibitions can offer a more personal and unique experience of the gallery, often providing deeper insights into the artists and their work.
One of our particular favourites is the Liverpool Cathedral Roof Tour. A simply breathtaking landmark in itself but if you get the chance to see the views from the roof top, you will be in awe. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Welsh Hills in the distance and it’s remarkable. On the tour, you can also see the bell chamber of the cathedral as well as learn about the fascinating architecture.
For the football fans amongst you, you can also head over to Anfield to do a stadium tour. The Shankly Gates and Paisley Gateway pay tribute to Liverpool FC’s legendary managers, while the Hillsborough Memorial is a poignant place of remembrance. There are also pubs and fooderies nearby so you can get a full experience of Liverpool Football Club.
